my little sister, Bailey, picked up the Lion King on Broadway soundtrack at the public library sometime in 2003. she was instantly converted, and our family was also entranced as we later traveled to NYC to see the show. it was the first time we had ever done something like that as a family: saved up our pennies, flew in an airplane, stayed in a hotel, read travel guides, witnessed a city larger than life, attended a broadway show... it was a life-changing trip (as trite as it might sound).
ever since then, the song Circle of Life has always been sort of a "creed" for Bay. she knows all the words to all the versions. she even sang it as a solo at graduation with her high school choir as back up. (and it rocked, I might add). she makes it mean something.
this song is Bailey for me. she's smart, she's brave, she's passionate-- just like the song. plus, I don't think I could count how many times we've woken up and burst into the swahili.
